Peru's Health Ministry (Minsa) has sent 5,400 COVID-19 rapid test kits to the rainforest region of Madre de Dios to be distributed among 75 native communities to detect, track, and contain this infectious disease.

The distribution will be carried out through micro-networks identified by the Regional Health Directorate (Diresa) in said region.

Minsa's Directorate of Indigenous and Native Peoples reported that Executive Director of the National Health Council's Coordination Secretariat Milciades Reategui traveled to Madre de Dios carrying the medical material.

The rapid tests will be delivered by Diresa to eight micro-health networks in the region, giving priority to those with positive coronavirus cases.

The micro-networks mentioned above are Planchon, Salvacion, Jorge Chavez, Nuevo Milenio, Laberinto, Boca Colorado, Mazuco, and Huepetue.

They will distribute the rapid test kits in the following native communities: Yomibato, Palotoa, Palma Real, Gamitana, Amaracayre, Shintuya, Puente Inambari, Itahuania, Mazuko, Tayacome, Diamante, Mansilla, Boca Manu, Mavila, Monte Salvado, Lucerna, Sabaluyoc, Otilia, Alta Pastora, Union, Tres Islas, and El Triunfo, among others.

There are around 171 native communities in Madre de Dios, many of which are located near towns that report their first cases of COVID-19.
