Peru: Ministers are always willing to clear doubts

Peruvian Energy and Mines Minister Francisco Ismodes on Friday affirmed State ministers are always willing to clear the concerns of lawmakers, regarding the questioning proposed by Frente Amplio political party.

Last Thursday, Frente Amplio filed an interpellation motion concerning the construction permit recently granted for Tia Maria mining project, which Southern Peru Copper Corporation expects to develop in Islay Province (Arequipa region).

The Congress' document was signed by lawmakers of Nuevo Peru, Alianza para el Progreso, and Cambio 21 political groups.

Likewise, the cabinet member urged authorities related to the mining project to act responsibly.

Furthermore, he indicated the Government acted responsibly when granting the construction permit to the company, a legal process dating from 2014.

Thus, Ismodes indicated he hopes the invitation for dialogue —promoted by the Vizcarra administration— can create spaces aimed at clearing doubts concerning the mining project.

In this sense, Prime Minister Salvador del Solar affirmed the Government works in order to clear all the concerns regarding the project, adding that dialogue is the appropriate means to achieve that goal.

Last Wednesday, President Martin Vizcarra expressed his administration's willingness for dialogue to resolve differences over the project.

Besides, the minister pointed out there are a water and sanitation works currently being carried out in Islay Province.
