Peru medalists get money prizes for Lima 2019 performances

The Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) on Tuesday awarded S/2.72 million (about US$803,545) in prizes to medalists at Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games.

IPD President Sebastian Suito, National Paralympic Association of Peru Head Luisa Villar, Lima 2019 Organizing Committee President Carlos Neuhaus, International Olympic Committee representative Ivan Dibos, as well as relatives of the medalists attended the event. 

The prizes were awarded as follows: S/80,000 (around US$23,633) to gold medal winners, S/60,000 (about US$17,725) to silver medal winners, and S/30,000 (around US$8,862) to bronze medal winners. 

In the case of team sports, the money was distributed equally among the team members. 


On the other hand, Peruvian Para athletes won 15 medals at the mega-sports event: 5 gold, 3 silver, and 7 bronze. These results marked a historic record by surpassing the country's record of 11 medals earned in Mexico 1999.

The prize-giving ceremony took place at the Culture Ministry headquarters.
