Peru: Loreto Region to get new hydro-ambulances thanks to South Korean donation

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has made a donation of US$1 million for the construction of 6 hydro-ambulances, in order to serve the riverside populations of rainforest Loreto region, in northeastern Peru.

This contribution was confirmed through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) by KOICA, the Peruvian Health Ministry, and Loreto's Regional Government.

This important donation will contribute to strengthening of the South American country's response capacity in times of COVID-19, by meeting the health-related needs of vulnerable populations —such as Amazonian communities.

Last December, KOICA donated an oxygen generating plant to the capital city's Maternal and Child Health Center "Laura Rodriguez Dulanto," which is part of the Directorate of Integrated Health Networks in Northern Lima (DIRIS Lima Norte).

In the same month, Peruvian Health Minister Pilar Mazzetti received a set of Walk Thru booths donated by KOICA for safe COVID-19 testing sample collection —valued at US$50,000.

As is known, KOICA also promotes entrepreneurship and sustainability of Peruvian start-ups with the support, financial backing, and advice provided by successful Korean companies.
