Peru: Lambayeque region bets on diversifying tourist offer

12:47 | Chiclayo (Lambayeque region), Jul. 11.

Lambayeque's Foreign Trade and Tourism Regional Management (Gercetur) —along with local entrepreneurs— bet on a diversified tourism industry in order to attract a greater number of visitors to the northern region.

According to Gercetur Manager Oscar Quispe, seven local travel agencies have recently taken part in a business round with 50 Lima-based companies with the purpose of expanding their service offer.

"Agencies have also been called to participate in a similar event in Cusco, and we want to go with new tourist offer proposals, including adventure and sports activities (…)," he noted.

Likewise, the official pointed out travel agents have developed new products aimed at specific segments or market niches.

"But these segments are the ones that will help us diversify Lambayeque's tourist offer," he added.

Archaeological-cultural tourism

In statements to Andina news agency, Quispe remarked archaeological-cultural tourism is Lambayeque's main product, which is constantly renewed through initiatives launched by museums such as Royal Tombs of Sipan, Tucume, and Huaca Rajada-Sipan.

Within this framework, he pointed out Tucume Museum is promoting bicycle tourism.

"(...) the idea is to offer more activities, as well as make tourism more interactive, entertaining, and responsive to the market trends," the Gercetur representative said.
