Peru Labor Min: Gov't seeks to resume growth path and preserve jobs

09:45 | Lima, Jun. 2.

The labor measures adopted by the Government —within the framework of the COVID-19 emergency— are aligned with the goal of resuming the country's growth path, preserving jobs, and protecting the most vulnerable population, Labor and Employment Promotion Minister Sylvia Caceres said on Tuesday.

According to the government official, the Executive Branch, employers, and workers "must work together to create the conditions so that economic recovery takes place on the best possible terms, reconciling the firm interest in the care of life and health of citizens, workers and users of services."

The minister led two virtual bilateral meetings with representatives of employers' unions and trade union federations participating in the National Labor and Employment Promotion Council (CNTPE).

Likewise, Caceres met with business unions on Friday and union leaders on Saturday and Monday.

During the meetings, Deputy Ministers Javier Palacios (Employment Promotion and Labor Training) and Juan Carlos Requejo (Labor) provided information about the impact of the COVID-19 health crisis on employment, as well as the prospects for recovery, in the context of the measures adopted by the Government to resume the growth path and the preservation of jobs.

"These meetings mark the beginning of a round of dialogue with business and union sectors aimed at providing qualified information to the main economic and social agents so as to build together —based on evidence— a plan that allows us to reverse the serious impact of COVID-19 on employment," the Cabinet member emphasized.
