Peru: Judiciary orders house arrest for former First Lady Heredia

The Judicial Branch on Friday ordered the house arrest of former First Lady Nadine Heredia (2011-2016), within the framework of the investigations into the Southern Gas Pipeline Project.

She is investigated for the alleged crime of aggravated collusion and another one to the detriment of the State.

With this decision, the Chamber revoked an appearance with restrictions order issued last August by Judge Juan Carlos Sanchez against Heredia, who is accused of having favored the Odebrecht Company with said project.

Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group member Geovana Mori —who appealed the decision of Judge Sánchez— had initially requested the preventive detention of Heredia and other former government officials for a period of 36 months over the alleged commission of wrongdoings linked to the project.

The thesis of the Prosecutor's Office claims that there was a criminal organization that became embedded in the central government once the Nationalist Party came to power with former President Ollanta Humala (2011-2016) and acted to favor Brazilian companies in public tenders.
