Commonly known as the "Andean Great Wall," the recently inaugurated viewpoint in Huayhuacalle, Abancay province, Apurimac region, is attracting tourists with its striking structure, as well as the vast and captivating natural landscape that can be admired from the site.

The official mentioned that the Huayhuacalle Viewpoint—the actual name of the so-called "Andean Great Wall"—is located in Cachora district, Abancay province.
The viewpoint's colloquial name stems from certain similarities between its architectural style and the structures seen along the Great Wall, built by China on its northern frontier.

Covarrubias said the design of the project, including this viewpoint and the other lookout points that comprise it, drew on features characteristic of similar structures found in other parts of the world, distinguishing it from comparable sites in the country.

The official indicated that the Apurimac River canyon can be seen from the viewpoint.
At 4,691 meters deep, it is considered one of the deepest canyons in the world.

The official said the viewpoint also offers views of the Apurimac River, which stretches for 700 kilometers, as well as Padreyoc snow-capped mountain and the Choquequirao Archaeological Complex.

Moreover, the viewpoint offers the opportunity to observe condors in flight.
"There is a nest of these birds below the area where this viewpoint was inaugurated," Covarrubias detailed.

Visitors to this area of Apurimac can find an ideal setting for trekking as well, the DDC official indicated.
The project will help boost tourism in this part of Apurimac and encourage more visits to Choquequirao, which welcomed 12,000 visitors last year, he noted.

Its construction is part of the Apurimac Canyon Tourist Circuit project, whose first phase covers the Cachora district.
He noted that the district provides the main access to Choquequirao and offers outstanding views of Salkantay snow-capped mountain.

He said the viewpoint is part of a network of such structures, which total nine in all.
In that context, construction of the Incarracay Viewpoint is still pending, which will bring the Apurimac Regional Government's investment in the project to nearly S/15 million (about US$4.30 million).
