A high-level government delegation, led by
Culture Minister Alejandro Neyra, on Sunday afternoon arrived in Loreto region to monitor the situation in Puinahua and meet with representatives of indigenous peoples.
A clash outside Petrotal —a company located in the area— left 3 locals dead as well as 11 civilians and 6 police officers injured.
"Our priority is to respond to any type of emergency situation affecting indigenous peoples," said the minister before leaving for Loreto.
In statements to the press, Interior Minister Jorge Montoya reported that casualties amounted to three.
According to the government official, a group of police officers have headed to the area to protect both the population and the oil field known as Block 95.
