The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Monday announced that his Government will allocate S/10.8 billion (about US$2.6 billion) in 2022 to strengthen the operational capacity of the National Police and the State apparatus in the fight against crime, organized crime, and citizen insecurity.

The Head of State reiterated his full support for the institution and noted that insecurity and corruption are among the principal problems affecting the nation.

According to the country's top official, the police's operational capacity is being strengthened to deal with this situation, providing better tools in the fight against criminal organizations, drug trafficking, terrorist remnants, and other illegal activities.

In addition, he said that S/217 million (US$53.2 million) is being allocated to the Interior sector, of which S/202 million (US$49.5 million) will be allocated to investments in the Police, such as the construction of 17 police stations, 2 investigation units, and 10 specialized units for forensic laboratory analysis, rescue services, and tactical divisions.

"New police stations will be built in the regions of Piura, La Libertad, Junin, Cajamarca, Huancavelica, Cusco, Ayacucho, Loreto, Huanuco, and Apurimac regions," the Peruvian leader announced.

Moreover, Mr. Castillo stated that crime has declared war on Peru, attacks every day, and makes people anxious, worried, and scared, noting that this situation has to stop.

After calling on regional and local authorities for unity, he remarked that his Government is convinced of the need to implement firm and decisive responses against crime.

The event took place at the Honor Courtyard of the School of Police Officers located in Lima's Chorrillos district.
