Peru: Govt to intensify control of compulsory immobilization in 5 regions

18:03 | Lima, Mar. 26.

President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday afternoon announced that law enforcement and a greater restriction linked to the mandatory social immobilization will be intensified in the Peruvian regions of Lambayeque, La Libertad, Loreto, Piura, and Tumbes to guarantee full compliance with the emergency decree in areas that disrespected the order, which —coincidentally— see an increase in positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.

The Head of State said this measure has been requested by the Peruvian National Police and Armed Forces, which consider that the current schedule of compulsory social immobilization —from 8:00 p.m. to 05:00 a.m.— should be strengthened.

Other regions that register such cases are: Junin, Arequipa, Callao, Cusco, Ancash, Huanuco, Ica, Madre de Dios, San Martin, and Cajamarca.

Interventions

The regions —which registered the largest number of intervened citizens (after the city of Lima)— were La Libertad and Piura, with 881 and 341 people, respectively.

Remarks were made in a televised Address to the Nation, within the framework of a mandatory social isolation imposed to prevent the COVID-19 from further spreading in the South American country.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers and other authorities. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Thursday marks the eleventh day of mandatory social isolation.
