Development and Social Inclusion Minister Patricia Donayre on Friday affirmed that the Government of Peru is on alert for a potential second wave or outbreak of COVID-19 infections.
On the matter, the government official affirmed that, to date, there are more intensive care unit (ICU) and hospital beds throughout the country.
"The outbreaks are obviously possible, we are on alert, and the appropriate measures are being taken. We have been preparing for an eventuality of this kind at all times. There are even more ICU and hospital beds now," she explained.
The minister said that even though no one wants a second wave of COVID-19, Peruvians have to be prepared, and she believes that they are now.
Remarks were made after visiting the Sagrado Corazon de Jesus soup kitchen —located in the district of Mi Peru, in the Constitutional Province of El Callao— within the framework of the
World Food Day.
This soup kitchen received food products from the national school feeding program Qali Warma, in compliance with Legislative Decree No. 1472, to deal with the health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
