17:59 | Lima, Oct. 23.

Peruvian fresh grape exports totaled US$361 million between January and August 2019, thus increasing 18% compared to the same period last year, Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) affirmed on Wednesday.

According to CCL's Foreign Trade Center (CCEX), this outcome positions the Inca country as the third-largest fresh grape exporter in the world

CCEX Manager Monica Chavez indicated that this rise has been posted in nine of the 10 main destinations. Canada registered the highest expansion, as these shipments rose 252% during the analyzed period climbing from US$1.7 million to US$6.3 million.

It should be noted the United States leads the list of target markets. The exported value amounted to US$165.7 million, a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2018.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong and the Netherlands are the second and third main destinations for Peruvian grapes, reaching US$52 million and US$32 million, respectively.

New markets

Likewise, CCEX identified nine countries to which Peru had not exported grapes before.

These nations are: The United Arab Emirates (US$396,720), Ecuador (US$160,968), Kuwait (US$83,593), Senegal (US$36,480), France (US$31,920), French Guiana (US$31,920), Qatar (US$30,529), Ghana (US$21,142), and Malta (US$20,379).

This increase was also boosted by a greater production of this fresh fruit, which has registered a continuous growth for the last eight years.
