Peru, Finland agree to launch air transport relations

12:11 | Lima, Sep. 21.

Peru's Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and Finland's aeronautical authorities agreed to launch air transport relations between the two countries.

On the Peruvian side, negotiations were carried out with the support of the Directorate General of Sovereignty, Limits and Antarctic Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This way, the MTC —through its Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC)— complies with the Government's policy to increase air connectivity across the globe.

The bilateral meeting to address this topic took place September 18 in the Peruvian capital Lima.

Peru's delegation was headed by DGAC Director Juan Carlos Pavic, who was joined by General Director of Sovereignty, Limits and Antarctic Affairs Roberto Seminario.

The Finnish side was led by Paivi Jamsa, chief negotiator of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of that country.

During the gathering, the parties negotiated the terms of the first Air Service Agreement between both nations.

The deal will allow Peruvian and Finnish airlines to operate passenger and cargo flights from one country to another.

Finland's representatives announced Finnair will be the first airline authorized to fly this route.
