Peru: FA Ministry highlights Peruvian participation in Ibero-American Summit

The Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry on Wednesday highlighted the participation of this sector's head, Ana Cecilia Gervasi, in the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit, which took place in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) on March 24-25.

Given the Peruvian presence at this meeting, it was possible to reaffirm the South American country's commitment to democracy, the rule of law, as well as to human rights protection and promotion.

Similarly, the Ibero-American system was promoted to generate concrete initiatives: "Una Iberoamérica centrada en las personas (A people-centered Ibero-America)."

In addition to promoting an inclusive migration policy, through the recognition of migrants' contribution, their integration into society and non-discrimination was boosted —through joint regional action.

Dialogues with senior representatives

Within the framework of the Ibero-American Summit, the Cabinet member held talks with high-ranking representatives, such as Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Deputy Secretary-General Ulrik Knudsen. He expressed the institution's support for Peru's accession process and willingness to continue providing technical advice.

Likewise, the Peruvian government official met with European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, who announced support for the constitutional legitimacy of Peru's Government and the strengthening of cooperation mechanisms with the European bloc.

Furthermore, the Cabinet member met with Ibero-American (Segib) Secretary-General, Andres Allamand, who announced the similarity in the strategic approach for invigorating the Ibero-American community.

Bilateral meetings

The Foreign Affairs Ministry's head held meetings with her counterparts from Spain, Minister Jose Manuel Albares, who offered support for the current constitutional and institutional process in Peru; and from Brazil, Minister Mauro Vieira, with whom she spoke about strengthening bilateral relations.

Moreover, Minister Gervasi met with Chilean counterpart, Alberto van Klavaren, with whom she spoke about the development of Binational Cabinet agreements, plus the joint work on migratory issues and the Pacific Alliance.

She also met with Guatemalan Minister Mario Bucaro to strengthen bilateral and cooperation ties.

Lastly, Minister Gervasi met with Portuguese counterpart, Joao Gomes Cravinho, with whom she discussed the European support for the institutional political process in our country.
