Peru expresses solidarity with Turkey, Syria after strong earthquakes

The Government of Peru has expressed its deepest solidarity with the peoples of Turkey and Syria after the earthquakes that have struck occurred since last night and over the loss of human lives.

Moreover, via the official Twitter account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Peru expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and those affected.

The government agency reported that the Consular Section of the Peruvian Embassy in Turkey has set up emergency communication channels following the 7.7-magnitude quake that occurred early Monday, February 6.

Thus, Peruvians in the affected areas can call the Peruvian Embassy at +90 (553) 041 08 85 or send an e-mail to consulado@embassyofperu.org.tr.

"The Consular Section of the Peruvian Embassy in Türkiye is on permanent alert. In the face of any difficulty, the Peruvian nationals can contact through the following channels," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in the tweet.

Likewise, it conveyed its deepest solidarity with the Turkish and Syrian peoples over the earthquakes that have occurred since last night the unfortunate loss of human lives.

"We express our condolences with the families of the victims and those affected," the ministry wrote on Twitter.

According to official sources, the 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit near Gaziantep, in southern Turkey, close to the border with Syria early Monday.

At around 1:50 p.m. local time (10:30 GMT),  a new quake of magnitude 7.5 struck Kahramanmaras Province. Local authorities affirmed that it was not an aftershock.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan had reported that at least 912 people had died only in Turkey after the first seismic event, which also left more than 5,300 injured.
