The Government of Peru on Tuesday extended its condolences to the Mexican people due to the accident that occurred in the capital's metro system, which has left more than 20 people dead.

"We deeply stand in solidarity with the relatives of the victims," the Foreign Affairs Ministry expressed via Twitter.

On Monday night, a beam that supported a bridge on Mexico metro's line 12 collapsed, between Olivos and Tezonco Stations.

Following the collapse, two wagons fell into an avenue where many vehicles were circulating.

This morning, Mexican President Andres Lopez Obrador announced that a thorough and unceremonious investigation will be carried out.
