He added that government authorities had signed an act with tour operators in that area during the aforementioned month.
The latest event also saw the presence of Deputy Tourism Minister Julia Alvarez, Cusco Province Mayor Victor Boluarte, as well as of municipal authorities (Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu districts), and Congressman Guido Bellido.
Upon leaving the headquarters of the
Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Mayor Boluarte deemed it necessary to increase the number of visitors, since the holidays are approaching, which usually generate a large influx of tourists.
For his part, Bellido said he hoped that the studies for this purpose would be completed as soon as possible and that the expansion would be made official next week.
Update at 4:03 p.m. (local time): After technical study and evaluations, the Ministry of Culture decided to increase the capacity for visitors received daily by the llaqta of Machu Picchu (Cusco region) to a maximum of 4,044 people. Currently, the allowed capacity stands at 3,044.
This was announced on Tuesday by Culture sector's head Alejandro Salas, who specified that this increase in capacity (+1,000 attendees) will be implemented gradually and over a period of three months —during which time the measure's impact will be evaluated.
