The vaccination against COVID-19 of people suffering from cancer and HIV kicked off on Saturday morning in Lima Metropolitan Area and Callao.

Health Minister Oscar Ugarte supervised the startup of the process at the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases (INEN) in the capital city.

Immunization efforts will be carried out progressively across the country, starting with Lima.

In this sense, health authorities indicated that the schedule of the government's official "Pongo el Hombro" (I Lend a Shoulder) platform will be strictly complied with.

According to the Health Ministry, approximately 150,000 people with cancer and 60,000 with HIV, aged above 18, are waiting to be immunized against COVID-19.

Those who are receiving treatment will be vaccinated at the health centers they usually attend.

Meanwhile, those who have overcome the disease can go to the general vaccination centers, where they will be asked to show their appointment confirmation document (printed or on an electronic device).
