The year-end holidays are just around the corner and —as usual— people take advantage of these days to go to markets, shopping arcades, and malls to do their Christmas shopping.
For this reason, the
Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud) launched the "Safe Christmas 2020" campaign to raise awareness among citizens about the care they should take to avoid mass COVID-19 infections.
Speaking from the Gamarra garment emporium in Lima —an area with a large influx of public, with 28,000 merchants and 200,000 visitors daily—
EsSalud's spokesperson Jorge Amoros urged citizens to avoid exposure to the virus by complying with a series of biosafety measures.
He recommended the permanent use of a face mask, as well as a face shield when in high risk settings, but recommends against the use of watches, bracelets, rings, and delicate garments with metal inserts, since the virus can remain on these surfaces.
In addition, Amoros stressed the importance of hand washing and social distancing.
Likewise, he called on people to look for ventilated places with limited capacity that take temperature checks and provide hand sanitizer at entrance to the establishment.
Moreover, the spokesperson said that it is recommended to disinfect packaged foods, such as snacks, cookies, and soft drinks before consumption. Alcohol or a diluted bleach solution can be used to that end. Avoid consumption in high-traffic areas.
