The Peruvian Congress has recognized the work of specialists sent by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, which donated 100,000 molecular tests aimed at combating the COVID-19 pandemic in the South American country.

Parliament head Manuel Merino met with the physicians who are members of the group of experts from the German Epidemic Preparedness Team (SEEG).

Merino thanked them for the work accomplished in the country, such as the delivery of molecular tests to the following regions: Tumbes (30,000), Iquitos (50,000), and Lima (20,000).

Specialists Felix Drexler, epidemiologist at the prestigious Charité Medical University of Berlin; Michael Nagel, microbiologist from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ); German Ambassador to Peru Stefan Herzberg; and Congress Deputy Chairman Guillermo Aliaga were present at the aforementioned meeting held at Parliament headquarters on Thursday.

The German specialists have developed valuable contributions to Zika research in Latin America and are currently dedicated to studying the COVID-19 pandemic.
