Peruvian Parliament Chairwoman Maria del Carmen Alva on Sunday reported that she has tested positive for coronavirus, after being administered an antigen test.
"I have suspended all scheduled activities while awaiting the molecular (PCR) test result," she wrote on Twitter.
In the post, Alva emphasized that she has received the three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
"I will follow all medical instructions while in isolation," she added.
Thus, the head of Parliament has joined the list of legislators (more than 10) who have been infected with COVID-19 since December last year.
On January 10, Congress announced the measures to prevent the spread of cases, such as blended in-person and online plenary sessions, commissions, and other working groups.
In-person attendance is optional, as long as the lawmakers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, keep their physical distance, and wear face masks at all times.
