Peruvian Congress on Thursday authorized President Martin Vizcarra's trip to New York (U.S.), where he will attend the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly and the Pacific Alliance's Presidential Forum.

The legislative resolution authorizing his journey was approved with 78 votes in favor, 0 against, and 9 abstentions.

The Peruvian leader will be overseas from September 24-26.

The document underlined that the participation of Peru at the UN General Assembly represents an important opportunity for the promotion of national interests included in the development, cooperation, peace, and security goals of the Peruvian State's foreign policy.

Likewise, it indicated the country is currently a non-permanent member of UN Security Council, adding its attendance will reaffirm Peru's political commitment to the organization's efforts in favor of maintaining peace and international security.
