Peru assumes presidency of IAPTC

Peru —through its Defense Ministry— has assumed the presidency of the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centres (IAPTC).

The handing over of the presidency took place on Thursday during the closing ceremony of the 25th Annual Conference of the IAPTC in Lima. 

New Zealand Army Colonel Helen Cooper handed over the post to Deputy Minister for Defense Policies Hernan Flores. 

Therefore, Flores will act as President of the IAPTC until October 2020. 

During the closing speech, the Peruvian official described as important the participation of over 200 peacekeeping experts from more than 60 countries. 

He also underlined the presence of women in peacekeeping operations, and emphasized the work done by Peruvian women. 

"My greatest appreciation to them and to women in other member states, who contribute with their talent and professionalism to provide an enormous added value and great social sensitivity to peacekeeping tasks all over the world," the deputy minister expressed. 

For her part, Colonel Cooper congratulated and thanked the defense minister for the organization of the 25th Annual Conference of IAPTC and highlighted the work done by Peacekeeping Training Centres around the globe.

The International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centres (IAPTC) is an open and voluntary association of centers, institutions, agencies, and programs dealing with peace operations research, education, and training.
