A total of 17,157,819 people, who account for 60% of the general population in Peru, have received the third (booster) dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) has reported.

In a post on Twitter, Minsa stated that so far 75.95% of the vulnerable population has received the third dose.

According to the National Single Health Data Repository (Reunis) of Minsa, 74,267,215 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered nationwide as of May 21 at 6:01 p.m.

Of that number, 29,291,323 doses were administered as first shots (89.4%), while 27,208,912 people (83%) received two doses.

In order to close immunization gaps in adults and children across the country, Minsa continues to set up vaccination centers and visits different areas of Lima and provinces to encourage people to remain up to date on their COVID-19 vaccine schedule.

In this regard, Minsa's Immunizations Director Maria Elena Martinez noted that the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing and that vaccination is the only way to be protected against serious forms of this disease.

"The pandemic is not over yet. We need to continue to get vaccinated, and that is why we have come, to bring the COVID-19 vaccine. Besides, we have brought the vaccine against influenza," the Minsa official remarked.

"It is important to remember that the Ministry of Health has already implemented the frost and cold spell prevention plan to particularly protect the vulnerable population," she added.
