The
President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Monday affirmed that people with congenital or degenerative diseases will be prioritized in the COVID-19 vaccination process, along with the elderly, as soon as the doses become available.
According to the Head of State, people with high-risk diseases, such as dialysis patients and those undergoing active treatment for cancer, will be next in the vaccine priority line.
He explained that there are people affected by genetic conditions they were born with, which are terrible and make them vulnerable, such as down syndrome or muscular dystrophy.
"Those who have genetic conditions and those who have experienced difficulties of this nature since birth will be given priority. People with high-risk diseases such as those under dialysis or those undergoing active treatment for cancer will be next," he stated.
The President said that today he met with the Ethics Committee that advises the Ministry of Health, with Health Minister Oscar Ugarte, Deputy Public Health Minister Gustavo Rosell, Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez, and the Advisory Committee in order to assess the situation of these people.
Vaccinations hit record high
The statesman also reported that COVID-19 vaccinations hit a record high last week: 110,000 people, which represents a huge effort in Metropolitan Lima, regions, and Callao.
"We have vaccinated more people than ever before. We had set a goal of around 25,000 people per day, but we have exceeded our goal in every case, for example 35,000 and 40,000. We are vaccinating according to schedule, and we will continue to do so," he added.
