Peru Libre presidential candidate Pedro Castillo on Thursday affirmed that he is not to destabilize, but to strengthen democracy in the country.
During a meeting with mayors of the Association of Municipalities of Peru (AMPE) in Lima, the candidate said he has neither personal interests, nor he owes any political or economic favors to anyone.
The 51-year-old school teacher recognized the efforts by mayors and stressed the need to work in a coordinated manner on priority issues such as public health, affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Likewise,
Castillo projected that —if health is not prioritized— the economy will not be able to improve.
Furthermore, he called on mayors to face this major problem and direct the proposal of a establishing a Ministry of Science and Technology in Peru.
Similarly,
Castillo indicated that it is appropriate to enhance the country's wealth and work in a committed way for the sake of the most remote peoples.
"We are not for gestures to destabilize, divide or hit democracy, but to strengthen it," he pointed out.
After mentioning the importance of also strengthening the National Police of Peru, he requested the participating authorities to walk the path of honesty, simplicity, and truth.
"Let's speak the truth to the people," he concluded.
However, the National Elections Board (JNE) is reviewing appeals of decisions regarding the voting records challenged during the electoral process.
