Peru Gov't closes infrastructure gap by speeding up completion of projects

Peru's Energy and Mines Ministry (Minem) will place priority on the completion of works assigned to this sector in order to close the infrastructure gap across the country.

"The National Infrastructure Plan for Competitiveness prioritizes 52 projects, whose implementation requires more than S/100 billion (about US$29.8 billion). Out of this group, 11 are in the field of energy and mines," the sector's head Juan Carlos Liu Yonsen pointed out.
The government official noted that Minem works account for 14% of all prioritized projects, that is, around S/14 billion (about US$4.17 billion).
"Out of the 11 projects in this group, four are already on the verge of implementation," he told El Peruano official gazette.
Progress
According to the minister, ProInversion has recently awarded three projects, including associated transmission lines, substations, and expansion works, at 500 kV La Niña-Piura, 220 kV Pariñas-Nueva Tumbes, and 220 kV Tingo Maria–Aguaytia links.
He stressed that such links will strengthen power supply in Tumbes, Piura, Huanuco, and Ucayali regions so as to meet the increased demand in residential, trade, and industrial areas.
"These three lines are supplying energy to northern Peru, basically to support productive activity at decentralized plants and factories, for which we need to provide the same conditions as in the central part of the country," he remarked.
According to Liu Yonsen, nearly all the energy produced in Peru is located in the center of the national territory.
