Meet Peru's representatives to Andean Parliament for 2021-2026 term

Five political groups that participated in Peru's 2021 general elections have won a seat in the Andean Parliament for the 2021-2026 period.

Below is the list of the Peruvian representatives to the Andean Parliament and the parties they are members of:

1. Javier Arce Alvarado, Peru Libre (180,135 votes)
2. Gustavo Pacheco Villar, Renovacion Popular (158,260 votes)
3. Leslye Lazo Villon, Accion Popular (132,506 votes)
4. Luis Galarreta Velarde, Fuerza Popular (113,692 votes)
5. Juan Carlos Ramirez Larizbeascoa, Avanza Pais (117,396 votes)

Peru Libre secured 16.2% of the votes, while 11.9% of the votes went to Fuerza Popular, 9.1% to Accion Popular, 10.4% to Renovacion Popular, and 8.7% to Avanza Pais. 

The five parliamentarians, including a woman, will represent Peru before the Andean Parliament for the period between 2021 and 2026.

Gustavo Pacheco was a legislator for Frente Independiente Moralizador (FIM) between 2001 and 2006. Leslye Lazo is currently a lawmaker representing Accion Popular, while Luis Galarreta has served as congressman twice and is currently a Fuerza Popular candidate for the first Vice-Presidency of the Republic.

Additionally, Javier Arce is a business administrator and was a member of Partido Nacionalista until 2015, whereas Juan Ramirez is a mining engineer who has never held an elected office and has no political activity.

The Andean Parliament is a supranational body of the Andean Community and consists of representatives of the national parliaments of Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, who are elected by popular vote.

It is intended to harmonize the laws across the region, ensure citizen participation, strengthen Andean and Latin American integration, regionalize good governance practices and State policies, as well as secure the Andean identity and culture.
