An ISO tank truck carrying 20 tons of medical oxygen from Ecuador entered Peru's northern Tumbes region, following the import procedures carried out by the Special Legacy Project to treat COVID-19 patients in Amazonas region.
Following completion of the procedures, the truck continued its journey to the provinces of Bagua and Utcubamba, where the COVID-19 Temporary Attention and Isolation Centers (CAATs) operate. These facilities had been set up and furnished by the
Pan American Games Special Legacy Project.
The vehicle is scheduled to arrive in Bagua tonight and then head to Utcubamba.
Hospital beds
The recharging process in these temporary care centers is carried out every month to guarantee the supply of medical oxygen and thus contribute to the recovery of patients in the Amazonian region.
Both CAATs became operational in September 2020 and rely on modern medical equipment.
100 hospital beds are available in Utcubamba, whereas there are other 50 in Bagua, the Legacy Project reported in a press release.
