Lima 2019: Parapan American Games torch lit in Pachacamac

13:31 | Lima, Aug. 20.

The Lima 2019 Parapan American Torch was officially lit on Tuesday at Pachacamac Fortress.

The lightning ceremony was held during a "payment to the earth" at the temple's main pyramid.

On this occasion, athlete Carlos Felipa became the first torch-bearer.

A day later, the torch will start travelling through the capital's diverse districts, so it can reach the main huacas in order to show the Inca country's culture to the world.

"The Parapan American Games are equal or more important than the Pan American Games, as it carries many messages. With this, we show that adversities can be overcome," Lima 2019 Organizing Committee Carlos Neuhaus said.

"Besides, Lima 2019 will enable the city to become more accessible," he added.

Furthermore, Luisa Villar —head of the National Paralympic Association of Peru— affirmed the international event will make a change in society possible, as Para sports transmit a message of inclusion.

Balich Worldwide Shows will be in charge of the event. It should be noted the Italian company also produced the opening and closing ceremonies of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
