06:51 | Lima, May 20 (ANDINA).
Slawomir Peszko scored the only goal shortly after half-time as KKS Lech Poznan defeated KS Ruch Chorzów 1-0 on Tuesday to win the Polish Cup for a fifth time.
Lech, second in the Ekstraklasa and pushing for the title, were strongly fancied to account for a side battling to avoid relegation, but had to wait until the 51st minute to break the deadlock.
Peszko was the man on target, collecting a pass from Peruvian striker Hernan Rengifo and dispatching it from nine metres, the UEFA website reported.
"I'm delighted that we've won this cup, partially for personal reasons," said victorious coach Franciszek Smuda, the 60-year-old who had three Polish championships on his CV but no cup triumph until tonight. "Now nobody can say I've never won the Polish Cup."
