Japan to honor 3 Peruvians with Order of the Rising Sun

Three Peruvian citizens will be awarded the Order of the Rising Sun soon, the Government of Japan announced Tuesday.

Ysabel Saito (Silver Rays), Carlos Aquino (Gold Rays with Rosette), and Muneaki Fukasawa (Gold and Silver Rays) will be recognized for their important contribution to strengthening cooperation and friendship ties between Peru and Japan

Fukasawa will be decorated in the Asian nation, while Saito and Aquino's award ceremony will take place in Lima.

Ysabel Saito, former chairwoman of Peruvian-Japanese Women's Association (Fujinkai), has contributed to improving well-being of the Peruvian-Japanese community

She has promoted friendship links and mutual understanding between both countries by boosting social assistance activities, as well as keeping Japanese traditions alive. 

Dr. Carlos Alberto Aquino is coordinator of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos' (UNMSM) Asian Studies Center, founding director of ASIA Group, founding member of the Peruvian Association of Mombusho Scholarship Students (APEBEMO), and a researcher on Asian economy. 

He has contributed to boosting research and studies on Japan and other Asian countries in Peru. 

Muneaki Fukasawa is the owner and chef of Fuji, a representative Japanese restaurant in Peru with over 40 years in the business.

Likewise, his achievements have been recognized within and outside the country. Fukasawa has received several awards including a Merit Award for Promoting Japanese Cuisine Abroad and the Honorary Diploma of the Peruvian Congress.
