The
on Monday congratulated the virtual winner of the Ecuadorian presidential runoff Guillermo Lasso.
Similarly, the Head of State congratulated the Ecuadorian people for this democratic day held last Sunday, which he deemed as exemplary.
"Peru renews its commitment to the relations of brotherhood, cooperation, and willingness for integration that unite our peoples and benefit their development," Mr. Sagasti wrote on Twitter.
Following 98.5% of the minutes scrutinized, Lasso declared himself the winner by adding 52.5% votes in favor compared to his rival Andres Arauz, who obtained 47.5%.
Null votes stood reached 16.29%, an unprecedented percentage in the country that seems to respond to the Yaku Perez factor —the former indigenous candidate who had asked his supporters for that option.
Lasso's victory came as a big surprise in Ecuador, after Arauz won in the first round on February 7, by a difference of almost 13 percentage points.
