Peru's Economy and Finance Minister Pedro Francke on Monday met with
Central Reserve Bank (BCR) Governor Julio Velarde to ensure the necessary coordination between both institutions in order to maintain the macroeconomic and monetary stability of the country.
"It is important for us to reassure markets and investors. The macroeconomic stability will be maintained, and a close coordination with the Central Bank of Peru is essential, within a framework of fiscal and monetary responsibility," he affirmed.
"Everyone's goal is to make sure the economy continues to recover and grow in order to generate jobs for the population," the government official pointed out.
During the meeting,
Francke and
Velarde assessed the macroeconomic situation and agreed mechanisms to ensure a smooth coordination between the two institutions, respecting the autonomy of the Central Reserve Bank and with the aim of preserving macroeconomic stability —a fundamental pillar of the Peruvian economy.
Regarding the continuation of Julio Velarde as head of the Central Bank, the minister commented that he is considering favorably
the proposal.
