FA Min Popolizio highlights Japanese counterpart's visit to Peru

Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio stressed the importance of his Japanese counterpart Taro Kono's official visit to the Inca nation.

Plus, he affirmed the visit will help consolidate the progress in bilateral relations.

"The presence of Foreign Affairs Minister Kono contributes to consolidating the progress achieved during Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's official visit to our country back in November 2016," Popolizio told Andina news agency.

Taro Kono will meet with President Martin Vizcarra at Lima's Government Palace today.

Other scheduled activities include a private session between foreign affairs ministers of Peru and Japan, as well as a working meeting between both countries' delegations.

"We believe this meeting is ideal to highlight the importance of maximizing the Economic Partnership Agreement's benefits for both nations and introducing our country's favorable climate to increase trade and investments," the government official said.

In this context, the visit is expected to address investment and tourism promotion, development cooperation, the Pacific Alliance's Strategic Vision through 2030, and Peru's accession to the OECD.

Popolizio recalled that a joint statement was signed during Shinzo Abe's visit to the Andean nation. It upgraded bilateral ties to Strategic Partnership and established a Political Dialogue Mechanism.
