Dakar 2019: Economic benefit for Peruvian regions exceed US$60 million

00:00 | Lima, Jan. 21.

2019 Dakar Rally generated an economic impact of over US$60 million for the five Peruvian regions where it had taken place (Lima, Ica, Arequipa, Moquegua, and Tacna regions), the Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry affirmed.

According to Minister Edgar Vasquez, this year's financial income was 50% higher than the one obtained in 2017.

Likewise, the official highlighted the impact generated through transmissions broadcasted by 60 international media outlets, which televised over 1,200 hours of the competition.

It should be noted they also transmitted images of the Inca country's tourist attractions, cultural wealth, and varied gastronomy.

"The economic impact of these international broadcasts borders US$200 million," he expressed.

Benefits

In this sense, Vasquez indicated the Inca country was the big winner of the 2019 Dakar Rally since it showed its landscapes, gastronomy, traditions, and citizens' hospitality.

The minister also highlighted the attention it received from national, international, and social media throughout the event.

As is known, the 41st edition of the Dakar Rally took place entirely in Peru on January 6-17

Over 500 drivers and co-drivers participated in the race. Stage cities included Lima, Pisco, San Juan de Marcona, Arequipa, Moquegua, and Tacna.
