Culture Min meets with Netflix delegation to promote Peruvian film industry

20:09 | Lima, Feb. 27.

Culture Minister Sonia Guillen and officials of the Deputy Cultural Heritage and Cultural Industries Ministry received a Netflix delegation led by Reed Hastings, CEO and founder of said U.S.-based provider of on-demand streaming media.

Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) Executive-President Luis Torres and National Institute of Radio and Television of Peru (IRTP) Chairman Eduardo Guzman joined the meeting.

At the gathering, they discussed future releases of original productions in Peru —on this platform— and the possible links with the Ministry of Culture and other State-run entities in order to promote the country's audiovisual activity.

Minister Guillen said Peru is making progress in terms film and audiovisual production, and is receiving recognition due to movies that receive important exposure and are spread around the world.

At present, Netflix includes various national productions in its catalogue. Some of them were supported by the Ministry of Culture such as "The Last Hour" and "Daughter of the Lake," as well as by other public institutions like PromPeru: "Peru, Hidden Treasure," and CONCYTEC: "Pacificum."

As is known, Netflix has recently announced that the experienced striker Paolo Guerrero, one of the most beloved soccer players in Peru, will be the subject of a biographical documentary to be available on its streaming service.
