Peru: President to meet with peers from Ecuador, Colombia and Bolivia

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo will meet with his counterparts from Ecuador Guillermo Lasso; Colombia Gustavo Petro; and Bolivia Luis Arce in Lima on August 29 —on the occasion of the XXII Andean Presidential Council.

Peru will assume the Pro-Tempore Presidency of the Andean Community at the upcoming event, the Foreign Affairs Ministry announced on Friday.

Upon being handed over the Pro-Tempore Presidency, it will assume the political leadership of this bloc, address regional issues, and promote topics of national interest in that space.

Peru's Work Plan for the 2022-2023 term will have as guidelines: the promotion of actions aimed at improving the Andean population's quality of life emphasizing joint measures for the development of border areas, as well as the expansion of free flow of goods and services.

A gender agenda will also be worked on.

The protection of the environment and mitigation of climate change impacts, as well as the physical and digital interconnection of the Andean zone, among others, will be addressed.

These protocols will guide Peru so as to adapt the Andean subregional integration process to the new international and domestic framework of each country in this bloc.

In addition, it will contribute to assuming the challenges of achieving a social reengineering that allows this community to get closer to ordinary citizens.
