Education Minister Ricardo Cuenca has affirmed that COVID-19 cases and deaths continue showing a marked decline on a national scale and urged the population not to lower the guard, but to continue to comply with all protection and biosafety measures.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Cuenca reported that the epidemiological indicators show that the number of cases has reduced for 11 consecutive weeks, while the death toll has declined for eighth week in a row.
However, he noted that the virus's behavior in Arequipa is different, as new cases continue to rise, which is why the Government has issued exceptional measures to contain the spread of the disease.
According to the minister, the available evidence indicates that
the C.37 or Lambda variant is responsible for more than 80% of the cases of infection in Arequipa.
Vaccination
On the other hand, the minister indicated that the vaccination has not been affected by the quake that struck on Tuesday night and that this process is proceeding normally at all vaccination centers and on schedule, as established by the
Ministry of Health (Minsa).
To date, more than 2.7 million people have received the two doses and over 6 million jabs have been administered across the country.
Moreover, the country's vaccination rate is 100,000 doses a day, which results in the immunization of more Peruvians.
