Coronavirus deaths increase to 18 in Peru

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) on Sunday reported two new deaths from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Peru, bringing the total number to 18.

According to Minsa, the first victim is a 91-year-old man with chronic kidney disease, who was admitted to Guillermo Almenara Hospital in Lima due to pneumonia and COVID-19 infection. 

His evolution was unfavorable, causing his death on March 27 at 12:30 p.m.

The second case involves a 66-year-old woman with morbid obesity, who entered Hospital No. III of Chimbote in northern Ancash region because of pneumonia and COVID-19 infection. 

The patient responded unfavorably and died on March 28 at 5:25 p.m.

"On behalf of all Peruvians, we express our heartfelt condolences to the relatives at this moment of pain," Minsa said in a statement.
