China hosts Peruvian gastronomic event

15:19 | Chengdu (China), Aug. 10.

Organized by the Embassy of Peru in China, the 2018 Peruvian Gastronomic Festival was held in the city of Chengdu on August 2-8.

As is known, the previous edition had successfully taken place in Beijing on July 29.

The festival —held at the Hilton hotel— was aimed to spread Inca gastronomic culture in both cities and boost tourism to Peru, as well as the consumption of national products.

Chefs Mariano Lopez and Reymundo Curo were in charge of delighting attendees' palates.

During the ceremony, the diplomat stressed that the origin of Peru's gastronomic wealth comes from its geographic and biological diversity, as well as its cultural roots.

Within this framework, he highlighted the contribution from over 100,000 Chinese citizens, who had arrived in the Inca country in the 19th century.

On the other hand, local authorities mentioned that both Arequipa and Chengdu —two cities well-known for their gastronomy— are currently engaged in a twinning process which would boost their economic and cultural ties.

On the occasion, attendees were able to taste Peruvian dishes such as Arequipa's adobo (a stew-like dish), rocoto relleno con pastel de papa (stuffed chili peppers with potato cake), cebiche and seco con frijoles, among others.

Approximately 150 guests —including government officials and businesspeople— attended the event.
