Peru's Interior Ministry (Mininter) on Saturday received an important batch of 650,000 face masks that the People's Republic of China has donated to Peru to preserve the health of police officers who fight on the front line of the battle against COVID-19.

The donation includes 600,000 KN95 and 50,000 BYD FE2311 KQ masks, valued at more than US$345,000, which will be distributed among the police personnel so that they can enforce the measures and restrictions decreed by the Government of Peru during the current health emergency.

The hand-over ceremony —held at Mininter headquarters— was led by Interior Minister Cesar Gentille, who remarked that the use of biosafety material is key for police members to fulfill their duties with the necessary guarantees in terms of health protection.

He also noted that this important donation reflects the close and permanent cooperation between China and Peru. So, he expressed his gratitude to the Chinese Government for its delivery, held this morning.

Historical ties

"This gesture is very timely and highly valued. Besides, it confirms the close historical ties between two sister nations, which have been intertwined and joined forces throughout history for achieving common progress of our peoples," Gentille stated.

For her part, Chinese Embassy Political Counselor Li Yun was pleased to make this donation, and said she hopes that the masks can contribute to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, which is affecting people on a global scale.

"We want a more fruitful police cooperation between China and Peru, and more in-depth communications and exchanges between our peoples," the diplomatic noted.

She also thanked Mininter and the Peruvian National Police (PNP) for providing good investment and business conditions for the Chinese companies operating in Peru, since China and Peru are important trading partners.
