16 mothers become Peruvian citizens ahead of Mother's Day

Sixteen mothers from 10 countries in the Americas were sworn in as Peruvian citizens Thursday in a special ceremony at the National Superintendence of Migrations facilities.

The ex-foreigners swore to observe the Inca country's laws and sang the national anthem for their first time as Peruvians.

It must be noted the new Peruvian citizens come from 10 countries in the Americas.

As many as 15 ex-foreigners acquired Peruvian citizenship by marrying a citizen and one by applying for naturalization.

They all received a Certificate of Citizenship from hands of immigration officers.

These 16 mothers and more than 1,500 ex-foreigners from across the globe have been granted Peruvian citizenship since 2016.

According to the immigration office, over 800 of the foreigners granted Peruvian citizenship over the past three years are women, and more than 740 are men.

Likewise, over 1,100 have received their Certificate of Citizenship by marrying a Peruvian citizen.
