A video of Pope Leo XIV singing the Christmas carol Feliz Navidad (Merry Christmas) in 2014 in Chiclayo has gone viral on social media and shows the closeness and warmth he had with the youth in the Peruvian city, which is now experiencing moments of joy due to his election as leader of the Catholic Church.

The video, shared by the user @Lesval1106 on the social network X, shows the then bishop of Chiclayo, Robert Francis Prevost, singing together with young people from Chiclayo in celebration of the Christmas holidays.

“At our Christmas gathering in 2014, they introduced us to Monsignor Roberto. We were delighted with his simplicity. We never imagined we were meeting the future pope. The kids from #Josif# Chiclayo will always remember him. God bless him,” she wrote.

It is worth noting that Chiclayo, where Robert Francis Prevost was bishop for almost ten years, celebrated his election as pope.

Pope Leo XIV, after his election, sent a greeting “in a special way” to his “dear diocese of Chiclayo in Peru.”

Meanwhile, the bishop of Chiclayo, Edinson Farfán, stated that Pope Leo XIV, elected as Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church, “loves Peru and loves Chiclayo,” in addition to being “very sensitive to poverty.”

He indicated that, during his time in the country performing various duties, including being Bishop of Chiclayo, the current Pope traveled throughout the Lambayeque region and part of Cajamarca, since “he was always a missionary.”
