The
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela requested guarantees, from its counterparts in Peru and Chile, for the landing of its aircraft at the border between Tacna and Arica in order to deploy Venezuela's Return to the Homeland Plan and transport Venezuelan nationals to their country of origin.
"We have requested guarantees for the landing, taking off, and fuel supply of our Conviasa aircraft in the area in a possible operation of our Return to the Homeland Plan, which will allow us to return our compatriots in a healthy and safe way," Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Yvan Gil said on Twitter.
Moreover, Gil reported that he is in contact with the Foreign Affairs Ministries of Peru and Chile to request respect for the human rights of Venezuelan nationals.
"Regarding the situation of Venezuelan migrants stranded at the border between Chile and Peru, we have been in contact with both foreign ministries and requested full guarantees and respect for the human rights of our compatriots," he said.
Hundreds of migrants, most of them Venezuelans and Haitians, remain stranded without being able to return to Chilean territory or enter Peru.
Peru has deployed almost 400 police agents and 196 soldiers to the area, after the entry into force of the state of emergency in border areas of the country.
