The Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs (WHA) of the United States Department of State stressed that Peru's acquisition of F-16 fighter jets opens a new era of cooperation with the South American country.

In a post, the WHA said Peru's purchase of Block 70 F-16 fighter jets ushers in a new era of cooperation.

It added that the "aircraft system provided by Lockheed Martin represents a security and economic win for the U.S. and Peru."

The WHA also shared remarks made days earlier by the U.S. Ambassador to Peru, Bernie Navarro, regarding the acquisition process and the signing of the corresponding contract between both parties.

"This joint effort is a testament of our support for our partners in a secure, shared hemisphere!" it concluded.
