U.S. Ambassador to Peru Lisa Kenna handed over a donation of personal protective equipment for 30,000 members of the Peruvian National Police at the Interior Ministry headquarters.

This donation will support the Peruvian Government's efforts to conduct the forthcoming general elections.

Interior Minister Jose Elice, General Commander of the National Police Cesar Cervantes, Foreign Affairs Ministry Secretary-General Ambassador Luis Castro, and National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) Chief Piero Corvetto received this important contribution on Tuesday.

The donation consists of 30,000 KN95 protective masks, 30,000 pairs of surgical gloves, and 30,000 units of alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

"Today, we are pleased to provide personal protective equipment for 30,000 members of the Peruvian National Police (PNP). This equipment will help them prevent COVID-19 infection, as they fulfill the noble task of safeguarding the upcoming democratic elections in Peru," the ambassador stated.

"We are confident that Peruvians and their democratic institutions will hold free, transparent, and peaceful elections, despite the unprecedented challenges posed by the pandemic," she added.

So far, the U.S. economic aid to Peru to fight COVID-19 has amounted to more than US$30 million.

Such aid includes 500 mechanical ventilators, training for the prevention of COVID-19, field hospitals, and provision of oxygen, among many other initiatives.

The ties between the United States and Peru are strong, lasting, and based on respect for common values and friendship.
