Switzerland reaffirms its commitment to Peru's economic growth

16:41 | Lima, Dec. 15.

The Swiss Cooperation - SECO has launched its Country Program 2021-2024, which sets the framework for the continuity of Switzerland's economic cooperation interventions in Peru, with an investment of US$80 million.

In recent years, Peru has increased its participation in the global economy with its rapid economic growth.

However, in many cases, this growth has not been sufficiently inclusive and sustainable, and has faced substantial challenges in terms of management and competitiveness.

Thus, the Swiss Cooperation wants to contribute to addressing these challenges by promoting sustainable and decentralized growth, taking into account economic, social, and environmental aspects.

The Country Program 2021–2024 seeks to strengthen favorable conditions for the development of Peru by setting two complementary thematic priorities i) the promotion of resilient subnational growth hubs and ii) the development of a competitive, innovative, and sustainable private sector.

In this regard, Economy and Finance Minister Pedro Francke said that the support provided by the Swiss Cooperation to Peru with regard to the Competitiveness Plan —which must be readjusted for the future and for regions in order to promote policies that help join the OECD— is very important.

"These are fundamental policies, and the SECO Country Program will be key for the ministry to work and collaborate with the Government's major tasks, such as economic recovery, job creation, closing social gaps, ending the threat of the pandemic, and ensuring good quality of life for the population in the coming years through vaccination and better health care," he commented.

For his part, Alain Bühlman, head of the Swiss Cooperation - SECO in Peru, affirmed that SECO will continue to support Peru's decentralization agenda on key issues such as public finances, water and sanitation or the incorporation of producer organizations and companies in global value chains.
