Argentine coach Ricardo Gareca will lead Peru's national soccer team to Qatar 2022 World Cup, no matter what, Peruvian Soccer Federation's (FPF) Vice-President Agustin Lozano affirmed.
"
Ricardo is going to be in charge of the national squad, he is going to continue in our federation, in our senior team. You can be absolutely sure about that (…).
Ricardo Gareca is going to lead our national team to Qatar World Cup, whatever happens," the FPF spokesperson pointed out.
After
a FPF Board of Directors meeting, he said one of the agreements was to reaffirm the
federation's confidence and strong support for the
Gareca-led coaching staff to proceed with the respective hiring immediately.
According to Lozano, the FPF Board of Directors has agreed to provide all guarantees for the national team work project with a view to the forthcoming world cup tournament.
"It's the senior team and we must have a coaching staff that has brought good results (…). Let's be consistent with what the country and our national team need," he told the press.
The meeting —he explained— did not discuss the situation of FPF President Edwin Oviedo, who is questioned about his alleged links with Iza Motors General Manager Antonio Camayo and suspended Supreme Judge Cesar Hinostroza.
Lozano mentioned FPF President's personal issues will be addressed by Oviedo himself.
As is known, a series of audio recordings were recently released amid a scandal involving high-level judicial authorities in Peru.
The audio clips implicate Oviedo in alleged irregularities. Hinostroza and Camayo are also involved in said conversations.
Last Sunday Camayo was detained for allegedly being part of the Port's White Collars criminal organization.
On Monday, Oviedo rejected accusations against him and ruled out the possibility of leaving office.
Similarly, Audit and Ethics Committee members tendered their resignation letters to the FPF.
